Recently, I’ve picked up a book that I used to love. I was absolutely obsessed with it in 3rd and 4th grade. I saw it on a shelf and thought hey, I’ll try that again. This book is part of a complicated series that’s about 8 books strong. Anyone who reads it will be completely immersed in the world of Magyk. The book is set in a crumbling queendom, 10 years after the queen was assassinated. At the same time as the queen’s death, the Heap family was mourning the loss of their seventh son. Upon returning to the Castle, as the walled city is called, Silas Heap finds a baby girl hidden in the snow, half dead. When he returns, he learns of the loss of the queen and his newborn son. The Heaps raise the baby girl as their own, but on her tenth birthday questions start to arise. What happened to the queen’s baby on the night of the seventh son’s birth and death? And who really is Jenna, the baby that was rescued on that same night? The mystery and fantasy of this series pull you in, and you aren’t able to stop. This book is great for a wide range age. Anyone from 8 to 18 could fall in love with the twisting path of this story.
